The TSA has made it official, they would rather let people who lie to them fly than to let people assert their rights.

@James – Good point. It looks they are willing to accommodate an exercise of the right to fly without ID. I do still think it appears that they would prefer that those who choose not to show ID just lie and say that they lost their ID.
Interesting questions remain about:
- How to “assist transportation security officers in ascertaining [your] identity”
- Whether they expect to keep any terrorist out of the airport this way. (Can you imagine a terrorist that would be unwilling to lie/procure fake ID?)
It looks to me like it’s the willful refusal to show ID that’s the main target here. Compliance, not safety, seems to be the goal.
